I haven't been very good about posting this week. I had several false starts.
The thing is, it's hard to stick to the plan I set for myself. The heat is the biggest problem. The fact squeezing my bike into the car requires anywhere from 30 seconds to 15 minutes or wrestling definitely doesn't help. The rest of the problem is less specific. Just a general poutiness that sets in, a lack of motivation to do anything at all, much less set off on some sort of mildly-masochistic regimen.
So, for the most part of the week (and maybe even part of last week), the story was that there was no story. I skipped dance classes because Sabrina was out of town. I drove, zombie-like, to The Next Stage everyday. I grimaced at the heat - but as I ratcheted up the AC.

oldfashioned carpooling
five girls piled into one car last night and set off for a mini-road-trip for a party in venice.
it was fun. 100% better than driving alone.

WeeeeeeeeHo, by Bike!!!!
I had a GREAT bikey-bike experience last night!!
Last night I biked to Le Petit Hotel from my rehearsal at The Next Stage. I googled the trip in advance and found that it would be a pretty straightforward 3 mile trip down Santa Monica from La Brea to San Vicente.
I prepped for the party mostly before the trip, putting on eye make-up and bronzer at the theater, and changing into my short summer dress. Everything else I needed, including a bit of foundation, my strapless bra and my heels, was tucked away in the back pack. Since I started the trip right around 5:30, the sun was starting to set, and it was cool and breezy out there.
The ride there was easy as pie. I rode on the mostly-vacant sidewalk down Santa Monica and tossed out giggly "thank yous" to passerby's that complemented my pink hat.
I was really worried about the ride back because I knew it would be up hill the entire three miles....BUT
to my utter amazement, the trip back was no harder than the trip there! It was one of those situations in which going down hill was easy, but going back up the slight incline was like going on flat ground!
Overall, it was a really fun experience (hence the "Weeeeeeee" in my title) and surprisingly easy!

AUDITION-EDITION
yes, my cute-sounding title doesn't make too much literal sense.
the point is, I'm trying to get carpooling into the audition process.
Today, I sent a little email to the guy organizing auditions for a feature.
The, ahem, unique thing about THIS audition is that it's in Newhalk. Newhalk, as in '35 miles of freeway'.
In an ideal world,
a) the organizing guy will forward the email to everyone invited to the audition
b) 97% of the people who receive it will be delighted by the idea and will email me back
c) I organize carpools with two or three people in my car, and help connect other people with each other
d) people realize they can do the same in the future, and a car-pooling-actor culture is born.
in a less-then-ideal world
1) the guy who invited me to the audition un-invites me for being too weird.

BIKE/DRIVE
As anyone who has ever talked to me knows, driving to hollywood every day BY MY SELF "drives" me berserk! I hate the fact that I'm contributing to the congestion and the pollution out there.
To date, some of my plans to alleviate the problem have been on the...shall we say 'outlandish' side. The one that tickles me the most: stopping at bus stops and offering a ride to "safe" looking individuals (maybe a nice, young mom with a child?).
However, yesterday I finally put into action a more FEASIBLE solution!
BIKE/DRIVE
1. I stashed my bike in the backseat of my car. I can't fit a bike rack on my vehicle thanks to the spoiler, but I was thrilled to find out that putting the back seat down is as easy as pie.
2. I park in a lovely, all-day parking spot next to my awesome dance studio, Edge. Since most of my auditions and the rehearsals for the 7 Deadly Sins are within a couple of miles of each other, it makes a great central location from which to bike.
3. I bike the rest of the way.
*****
Bike/Drive worked great yesterday. Ralphs, Trader Joes, about half a dozen casting offices and The Next Stage, where rehearsals for 7 Deadly take place are all an easy 10-to-20 min bike ride apart, so I was able to do SO MUCH! Plus, the experience of driving around Hollywood is INCREDIBLY better on a bike than in a car.
a) It's fun to be the cute model-type in a flirty pink hat biking along
b) breeze. enough said.
c) breeze.
d) unlike the street, the sidewalks in this area seem to ALWAYS be EMPTY! It makes riding a ..
e) breeze!

Apparently there may be a little reward in store for those willing to carpool.
I haven't read the article yet. Got too excited from just seeing the headline, wanted to post, NOW.
